The new formation ~ 4-3-1-2

We’ve seen two friendly matches so far and preseason seems to be going well. Ciro Ferrara said from the outset that he wants to use a different formation to accommodate newly arrived Diego, and so far, he’s been good for his word, fielding a 4-3-1-2 formation. With Diego still carrying a knock and Giovinco recovering from nose surgery, Del piero has been called to fill the ‘trequartista’ role behind the two strikers, even though Alex has confirmed this is not his preferred position.

Whilst it’s still early days and the players are adapting to the new formation, things look positive thus far, despite the drab performance against Nancy. We’ve yet to see the ‘first-team’ in action, with the line-up so far consisting of reserves and primavera players, but the ’stand-ins’ have performed well: Cristiano Zanetti put in a great performance against Cisco Roma dictating the play in the centre of the field; Tiago Mendes looks improved on the left of the 3 man midfield and up front, Ciro immobile has looked a very lively threat having notched up one goal against Cisco as few days ago.

This afternoons game promises a team comprising of more ‘first-team’ players with Ferrara giving Cristian Molinaro a first run out since his injury, Mauro Camoranesi playing on the right hand side of the midfield and Cannavaro slotting in next to Chiellini at the back.

Nothing better than a good attacking formation. It remains to be seen who his first choice strike partnership will be, and whether Giovinco will still be a reserve. I would like to see more of him this season. Hope ferrara trusts him enough, after watching him through the primavera.
    Where is Ayub anyway?

I think Ayub Daud is with the team in Pinzolo – he played a little against Cisco Roma.

One of the big pluses regarding Ferrara being set up as coach, is his experience with the primavera squadra. He knows their strengths and weaknesses and hopefully, he’ll be eager to mix them into the first team at the right moments.
